CJ7 Quadratrac coolant pipes anybody?
« on: September 02, 2015, 08:23:22 PM »

Hi guys.

I am having trouble sourcing some new metal transmission coolant pipes from the TH400 to the radiator on the CJ.

Anybody know of any lying around you could be convinced to part with for money?

Lighthouse haven't got any - any other suggestions?

I have long lengths of hydraulic hose..... Maybe 2 at 15 foot with female fittings on end......

Plus a few others..... Was from when I transferred hydraulic mile marker winch to rear and had to run pipes from steering pump.

Shout if you need, can bring to CF if you want to rummage through. :icon_twisted:

I know the ones you mean, but I haven't got spares.

How about taking what you've got to Pirtek, they've always been great for me in making up 'hydraulic' pipes.

Have to admit that I see no real reason why they have to be metal, as there is very little pressure in those lines, so std hydraulic flexible pipe as Wildwood and Dave have suggested should be OK, unlike the power steering one of which is under a lot of pressure..

As I understand it, they are metal because they run so close to the exhaust downpipes that heat is a problem, not pressure. Also they need to have a rather convoluted shape to avoid rubbing on various other bits of engine / bodywork....

And unfortunately I don't have the old ones to use as a template...

Lighthouse are on the case, and are hopeful of obtaining the right fittings for the Radiator/transmission. Then perhaps a little think about what to do next...

They look the same, it's the rubber ones that connect to the radiator that can be different lengths, I think

spiral covers used for cable tidies are good for surface protection and to protect from chaffing.

My TH400 coolant pipes run down the right hand chassis rail, then go flexible from just behind the fuel pump round to the bottom of the radiator. Exhaust all runs down LHS of Jeep.
My understanding was that the pipes were rigid because they were vulnerable. Why not 'P' clip some flexible hose in a protective channel all the way back to the transmission with maybe a short rigid end for the last 6 inches or so?
But  if you have a V8, please ignore all the above!
