Some info, whilst trying to sort out a locked diff issue on a GC 2006...

A recall was done to overcome a possible fault of the transmission randomly going into neutral and rolling away whilst parked...

N23 recall updated the software... but then owners reported that when trying to put into low "service 4wd system" comes up on the dash and the car will not go into low...

To add confusion the fault codes point towards the rear diff lock motor, many people have replaced the motor and still the car will not go into low 4wd

Chatting with the transmission specialist who receives updates and recall notices... some customers where fitting a second hand non updated module and risking the possilble neutral problem...

I spoke with the main dealer and Jeep now do another software update.

Hope this helps others... I will update if I find out more info...

Thanks for posting that info. Had the recall done on ours a while back. Sad to confess...had no need to put it in low since then so no idea if it has an issue or not. Dare I risk trying it!

Still waiting to hear if Jeep will do a recall for the ignition switch problem or not.

And to top it off, I have no idea where my nearest dealer is now. Used to be Kings of Cheltenham but they dropped Jeep a while back.

There is a fix for the 4wd low fault. Did it on ours 12months ago and still ok

I saw the bulletin listed, but of course, now it's a 'program' not a safety recall, so little incentive for them to do it.

Jeep main dealer just called...

Well its been updated and still has the same fault and codes... C140F and no low box selection

Next they are checking the wiring and if thats fine then its most likely the actuator...

The plot thinkens...

Dealers wanted £96/hour saying that they needed to diagnose if the wiring or the acuator was at fault... now they want £600 to fit a motor.... depsite it being well documented that many people fit a motor and it is not a fault... can see all of this going south....

I had TCJ reset the transmission and diff parts of the computer and all has been fine for months.

Second software update done, it had had the first update.

New "brake transfer case actuator/electric motor" replaced, £560 inc vat, all fine now, fingers crossed that is the end of that issue....

Tripped over this the other day. Decided to exercise the transfer case so tried to engage low ratio - BONG, SERVICE 4WD SYSTEM on the EVIC.

A remarkably quick bit of Googling and found this:

1. Turn on (engine running) checked that the 4wd service message was still occurring when  4 LOW activated.

2. Turne off and remove keys. Open up the fuse box under the bonnet (the one closest to the cabin of the Jeep.

3. Located and took out the fuse labelled fdcm/ediff #33 or #25 ( in my case this was #25)

4.Shut the fuse box, closed the bonnet, start it with the fuse out put it in drive, drove about 20-30 feet forward then put it in reverse drove 20-30 feet backwards. (Be aware you will get the service 4wd light as soon as you fire it up)

5. Turn off, keys out fuse back in, closed the fuse box and the bonnet.

6. Started, activated the low 4wd switch and it worked as it should.

I suspect this procedure is just resetting the system.

Further reading suggests that if there is still a problem, it's most likely that there is a physical fault in the bit that caused the original recall and it'll be the expensive fix.

Many thanks to the kind soul that figured out this solution and posted it.

Did this on my old one but it came back a few weeks later. It was sorted by the guys at TCJ services in the end, just a reset with the Jeep diagnostics.

Right this is my techie finest hour!!!!!!

Removing fuse 25 will work but maybe temporarily..Original recal N23 could knock out low box and neutral and was superseded in May? this year with recall N73 which sorts stuff out correctly It takes @ 20-30 minutes at a dealer and low box on mine works OK since

I did see some comments that the fuse trick may be temporary and also about the 'new improved re-flash'....but as there isn't a Jeep dealer nearby, it can wait until they get round to doing the ignition switch recall. Don't feel too inclined to spend half a day and cash on fuel just to have them fix something they messed up last time. Muppets.

I'll see what happens. It's been fine since it was done back whenever that was....right up until I poked the bear and tried to put it in 4 low.

Thanks chaps.
