Dead KJ, where to start?
« on: December 13, 2014, 08:44:14 AM »

As a recent member and Jeep owner (2007 KJ 2.8 CRD) have really enjoyed the site, reading past posts to get a feel for the new vehicle. However now I need real advice.....

Started her two days ago, frosty morning was going to let her warm up, but about 10 seconds in engine stopped and now she will not start. turns over enthusiastically but will not fire. Electrics appear OK, ignition lights etc all normal, my guess is fuel (but this is a guess, and yes tank is showing quarter full)!

Would welcome any thoughts on where to start troubleshooting? Any simple stuff to help isolate the problem.

Advice gratefully received.

has the pump lost its pressure?

one thing i learnt during the development of crd is DONT crack the injectors to bleed they system, the pressure is too great and will cause an injury.

it should have a lift pump in the tank, have done the obvious and checked the fuses?

Many thanks. fuses appeared OK, all reseated.

Have just tried pumping the fuel/water separator again and got her going, all now seems Ok.  Worry now is what caused the problem, could It be water freezing somewhere?

Thanks again for the input.

have you drained the water out of the separator? too much water collected can might be the cause. keep an eye on it and see what happens.

they suffer with filter heads letting air in at random intervals, if its done it once its odds on it will do it again...modified ones available on that auction site.

Just a suggestion but how old is the diesel? may not have the anti waxing additive in it if its old or from a dodgy source and would explain why it started later on in the day once it was a little warmer and had returned back to its normal state.
