LPG/Petrol dual fuel tank.
« on: November 17, 2016, 07:36:53 AM »

Has anyone got or had made a dual fuel tank for running on LPG or Petrol that fits where the original petrol tank would fit on a Jeep Wrangler TJ.
I am planning to fit an LPG kit but I need the rear seat/boot space therefore I need a tank that will fit underneath the jeep.

Any details or ideas would be great.

Unsure if this will help but on an XJ I had, it had a small (25ltr) petrol tank strapped to a cylindrical LPG tank in place of the original tank. It's size can be a bit of a problem as 25ltrs in the 4.0 doesn't last long at all, as you will know. If you wanted to go that route then you may struggle to get a petrol tank made though, if it has to comply to certain standards perhaps? Having said that if you came up wth the dimensions, I'm sure a fabrication firm would be able to make one up for you I reckon. They'd probably be able to make a hole to use the original sender & pump too. You could also try an LPG installer and ask if you can buy a tank that would suit or buy one of those that you'd see in something like a stock car - just a small oblong tank and mount it to the LPG tank. Be warned though; it looks hideous from behind! On my XJ and of those that I've seen with that sort of arrangement, it sat about 3-4" below the rear axle. It really did look pants!
Could you not mount a LPG donut tank on its side in the boot area, like many XJ's have in place of the spare wheels?

That's great thanks for the fast response guys. I'll keep digging as there must be someone that can make a tank the size of the current one divided in two.

Sw-engineering.co.uk

Had an Alloy tank made that was 4 galls when I had LPG

Just had another one made that is larger(12 galls) that uses jeep sender and pump assembly. Cost £250

A small tank would be less of course.

The guy is in Wales and does loads of rally stuff.....impressive.

yes it is, the lpg tank is fwd of it, the slimline liquid gold tank mounts to the rear underside of the vee hicle, its sturdy enough to endure a bit of hammering, the weather is still sheeite here with plenty of localised flooding including around the small shed its stored in unfortunately, but i will try to drag it out asap

Brilliant that's great!!

Once you manage to get to the shed via the Amazon let me know. :-) I'll just need a few measurements to make sure it will fit.

Cheers.

Right .... some success but due to a having to go to see my 92 year old rebelious recycled teenager dad on a weekly basis 200 miles away, its taken a little longer than expected but the waters have receeded, the sun is watery but out and ive managed to retrieve the said tank from the deepest darkest bowels of mini me shed and here are the pics

From whence it came from hehe

Got the lpg tank that was with it n all somewhere dated 2018
