2002 - 2004 TJ Wrangler AC Kit 4.0 Liter Engine
« on: August 31, 2014, 03:05:10 PM »

Bonjour!

Does anyone know if I can fit one of these bad-boys to a RHD UK registered TJ?

http://jeepair.com/wrangler-ac-kits/2002-2004-tj-wrangler-ac-kit-4-0-liter-engine.html

I'd be most put out if the evap casing in the cabin was different or the engine bay layout differed from the US one, so I couldn't mount the compressor.

Should make for an amusing weekend.

Thanks!

G.

the main components shouldn't be an issue, the pipework on the other hand would most likely be wrong at some point since the left and right hand drive differences might have an impact

All RHD TJs use the mirror image of the HVAC unit used in early LHD TJs where the blower motor is behind the battery. Later LHD models had the motor mounted behind the glove box. I don't know if the evaporator core could be used but the pipes would exit in a different place so the pipes would be wrong.

That would be my thinking too - the major components will likely fit, maybe with a bit of bracket adjustment but pipes are almost certainly going to bend the wrong way at some point.

Damn.

A lot of known unknowns  :icon_biggrin:  I bet there's a few unknown unknowns too.

I'll be loathed to import one of those nice kits and me only being able to bolt on the compressor.

Thanks a lot chaps.

Whenever they review one of the Vintage Air kits they always use the phrase.......' Chucking out ice cubes'
I know we don't do desert runs in the UK :hysterical: but I've never had a Eurobox that was capable of being unpleasantly cold........
