MAP SENSOR ERROR CODE 14 4.0ltr Jeep XJ
« on: August 27, 2016, 07:11:48 PM »

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what could cause Error Code 14?  I have replace MAP SENSOR with an new one.  Checked vacuum pipes and cannot see any physical leaks.  It just scraped through the emissions for MOT.

The emissions were
Fast idle
CO =12%  HC=14PPM  Lambda=1

At Natural Idle Test
CO = 47%

Last year the readings were as follows:-

Fast Idle
CO%=0.03% HC=5PPM Lambda=1

At Natural Idle Test
CO=0.04%

I pulled the vacumm to Map Sensor with the Engine Running, it tried to stall, (feels a good vacumm on inlet port where pipe to Map Sensor goes) Put it back on gave engine a few revs and it ran OK.  Would a Cat or O2 sensor going cause this problem. Somewhere I read the Throttle Position Switch can cause problems with a bad earth.  I cleaned the earth point to engine and from engine to bulkhead.  Could I just run a earth straight from battery negative, to TPS and MAP sensor to eliminate earth problems? I was also going to put a new lead to the earthing point on engine straight from batter negative and one straight to earth point on bulkhead from battery.
Thanks for all the help in advance

Cheap MAP sensors don't always fix the problem, I had to get a known good MAP sensor off a Jeep being broken and then replaced mine with a genuine Mopar one when I had emissions and rough running problems

Thanks JamesH for the quick reply.  Could I ask where you got the genuine map sensor from, and if not being nosey how much was it please?

Thanks in advance.

TCJ Jeep specialists in Northampton. I couldn't fix the rough running problem and mine failed it's MOT last year so I dropped it in to them and they took one off a breaker they had. I think they charged £40 for the second hand part. They were going to source me a Mopar one for about £110 if I recall but I ended up not ordering it because I totalled the Jeep
